Wareika Hill brings decades of musical experience to the stage. Their live performances resonate with a deep affection for the authentic roots reggae sounds
of the ’70s, complete with horns and rich vocal harmonies.

Veterans of the Philly reggae and ska scene, Dan Poruban (rhythm guitar/harmony vocals), Dave Segal (lead guitar), Adam Flicker (keys/harmony vocals), and Larry Kelsall (bass) have played together on and off for the past 20 years. Over the years, Wareika Hill has been fortunate to perform both as a headliner and as an opening act for reggae legends such as Gregory Isaacs, Burning Spear, Steel Pulse, Black Uhuru, Luciano, Freddie McGregor, Israel Vibration, Sizzla Kalonji, Midnite, Morgan Heritage, and I-Octane. Local venues include Ardmore Music Hall, Keswick Theatre, Underground Arts, The TLA, World Cafe Live, Milkboy, North Star Bar in Philadelphia, as well as venues such as the Knitting Factory in NYC and the House of Blues in Atlantic City, NJ.
On August 6, 2022, members of Wareika Hill had the opportunity to unite with fellow musicians as the “Philly Reggae All-Stars,” serving as the opening act for Burning Spear
at the TLA. That evening was an emotional, vibrant, post-pandemic performance that resonated with the Philly reggae massive. Following that performance, the foundation was laid for the band to be reborn. In addition to original members Poruban, Segal, Flicker, and Kelsall, this new incarnation of Wareika Hill features the dynamic musicianship of Jonathan Pang (drums) and Michael “Luv” Smith on lead vocals.
Every musician of Wareika Hill brings a unique element to the band’s sound. Their influences range from ska, rocksteady, reggae to modern dub. Former projects include King Django’s Roots & Culture, Stubborn All-Stars, Version City Rockers, Hub City Stompers, Dialects, The Brakes, Cultureal, Steppin’ Razor, RK$TDY, Jah Works, and
the Philly Reggae All-Stars.
Wareika Hill has often served as a backup band for many of Philadelphia’s own reggae artists. Recently, they have shared the stage, laying down the backing riddims for Mesha Steele, Michael “Luv” Smith, El Feco, and Pele. The band continues to strive to remain
a vibrant contributor to the Philly reggae music scene and beyond.
